Hey there, beer lovers! Welcome to the very first blog post from Shack Bay Brewing. We’re thrilled to have you join us on this exciting journey. Allow us to introduce ourselves and share our story.

It all began many years ago in Canberra, where we first met as young lads. Despite living and working on opposite sides of the country (and planet at times), we’ve always stayed close. And throughout this time, we both nurtured a shared dream: to break free from the corporate grind and create something truly unique.

One fateful evening, over a few beers (naturally), Matt floated the idea of starting a brewery. Luke, being the voice of reason, questioned Matt’s sanity. “Mate, are you nuts? A brewery? By the beach?” But as the night wore on and the beer flowed, the idea started to sound less crazy and more like the adventure we’d been craving.

Inverloch, or “Invy” as the locals affectionately call it, is a small, picturesque town located on the Bass/Bunurong Coast of Gippsland in Victoria, Australia. It’s a place Matt has called home for several years with his family. When the idea of starting a brewery began to take shape, there was no question about where it should be. What could be more unique and removed from the drudgery of office life than a brewery by the beach?

We named our brewery Shack Bay as a nod to the area’s geography and its unique history—both recent and not-so-recent. Inverloch has a charm all its own, and we wanted our brewery to reflect that. Plus, who doesn’t love the idea of enjoying a cold beer by the sea? Luke eventually came around, admitting, “Alright, maybe you’re onto something. Plus, who could resist the call of the ocean and a great pint?”

So, here’s to following dreams, doing something new, and sharing a mutual love of craft beer. We’re excited to embark on this adventure and can’t wait to see what the future holds. We hope you’ll join us for the ride and make Shack Bay Brewing a part of your own story.
